3rd Annual Clothing Swap and Vintage Apparel Expo
Recessionista’s Closet Take III will be bigger and better than ever!
Dallas, TX- On September 10, 2011 Dallas will welcome back its largest clothing swap event ever with an even bigger emphasis on Vintage Fashion.
Lifestyle and Image Consultant Talisa Lavarry created this annual event in 2009 in order to help families during tough economic times and create a fun event where all Fashion and Vintage lovers could meet and exchange fun pieces. Just as in previous years this event will benefit local homeless shelters as all clothing and accessories left over will be donated to their coffers. This community fostering event will take place at The Spa Bar located in the Design District, 1308 Conant St. Dallas, TX 75207, Saturday September 10, 2011 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The event is open to the public and caters to Women, Men and Children of all ages. The concept is to clean out your closets, collect new and gently used items you no longer want and bring them out to swap with others. Participants will be allowed to bring as many or as few items as they’d like to trade and enter as many times throughout the day as they’d like.
The Expo will feature skilled performers who will creatively model Vintage Clothing from several local Vintage Retailers including Vintage Martini whom was recently voted as D Magazine’s choice for “Best Women’s Consignment Store in Dallas”. Organizers are excited about the quality of vendors and level of talent that this year’s models have as well as the wide assortment of clothing that will be displayed.
“I have met some of the most passionate and talented people this year during the planning of this event. The moral is starting to stick and more and more people are beginning to look forward to this event year after year,” says Lavarry, Event Coordinator.
The event was well received for the last two years and each year the event becomes increasingly better. Lavarry attributes the high-level of interest in the Swap and Expo to the idea of being able to get a new to you wardrobe while cleaning out your closet and helping the less fortunate.

Any and all clothing types from all seasons and eras will be considered for acceptance. Admission to this event is $5.

Family Friendly Clothing Swap Returns to Dallas in 2010 with a Different Twist

Dallas, TX- On September 25, 2010 Dallas will welcome back its largest clothing swap event ever with an even greater community impact.

Lifestyle and Image Consultant Talisa Lavarry created this annual event in 2009 in order to help families and also to promote green living in Dallas. Not only will this year’s event benefit The Dallas International Street Church, organizers are proud to announce that members of the organization that are currently in reform will be a part of the planning and administration. This community fostering event will take place at Excuses Art Bar & Cafe in Dallas, TX Saturday September 25, 2010 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. Participants will be allowed to bring as many items as they’d like to trade and enter as many times throughout the day as they’d like as long as they enter with at least one item to contribute to the swap.

The Swap expo will feature trunk shows and several mini fashion shows hosted by local Vintage Apparel and Accessory dealers. Organizers are excited about using members of The Dallas Street International Church as models in the event as it not only exposes them to culture it gives them an opportunity to be put on display in a positive light while increasing their self-esteem.

“There are no words to explain the excitement I feel about partnering with The Dallas International Street Church this year. This truly encompasses all of my passions and gives me the opportunity to teach and encourage; all in the name of Fashion,” says Lavarry, Event Coordinator.

The event was well received on last year and the request for a repeat has been overwhelming. Lavarry attributes the high-level of interest in the Swap and Expo to tough economic times and the success that so many had in finding great clothes on last year.

All clothing that is left after the swap will be donated to The Dallas International Street Church. Admission to this event is free, however; a $5 donation is requested at the door. Random Blessings A Fashion Addict’s Path to Compassion

The Launch

Random Blessings

News Release

For Immediate Release

Contact: Talisa Lavarry

Phone: 214.886.0696

Dallas, Texas- Lifestyle and Image Consultant Talisa Lavarry presents….Random Blessings

A Fashion Addict’s path to compassion. Not just a book…but a movement.

This melodramatic fiction novel about the young and successful gift shop buyer, Tia Arbors takes readers through her complex personal journey filled with struggles ranging from loss of employment, failed businesses, rocky relationships and most importantly a brush with homelessness.

On any given night in America, anywhere from 700,000 to 2 million people are homeless, according to estimates of the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty. According to a report of the US Conference of Mayors, single men comprise 44 percent of the homeless, single women 13 percent, families with children 36 percent, and unaccompanied minors 7 percent.

Lavarry is not only proud to announce the completion of her book but she is also excited about the launching of “The Movement” which is her vow to raise awareness and funds for the local homeless community in DFW.

“I know too well the feeling of being two paychecks away from homelessness and this novel sheds light on how fast these unfortunate circumstances could knock on any of our doors,” says Lavarry.

The movement will be celebrated during a social event appropriately entitled The Launch by supporters and sponsors on November 14, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at The Swirll Winery and Wine Bar located Downtown Dallas. Owner Robert Whitehead is more than happy to help with such a cause as he is currently in the process of trying to assist a lady by the name of Paula that typically lives in the stairwell near the facility.

“So many people look down on the homeless and don’t opt to lend a helping hand. I know for a fact that Paula was dealt a bad deck of cards in life and I have personally committed to soliciting money from local residents and business owners in hopes of helping her rise above her current situation before the temperature drops in the upcoming winter months”, says Whitehead.

Talisa is inviting everyone out to The Launch to learn more about the movement and how they can be a part of it. The atmosphere will be very chic complete with fine wine, art, hors d’orves and music provided by Soul Singing Sensation Joe Blaq.

This event is open to the public and admission is free. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase during the affair.

Random Blessings is available now at your local bookstore’s order desk or at these online bookstores: Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com, Xlibris.com or by phone at 1-888-795-4274 ext.7876

The Princess in me partners with non-profit organizations!

princesslogoDallas TX, August 21, 2009- The Princess in me, a workshop for girls that focuses on etiquette and self-esteem has launched a new campaign that will make their program more accessible to non-profit organizations.

While this innovative workshop/princess tea party can be purchased by individual parents for Birthday parties or simply just because. The Princess in me has made a commitment to reach out to non-profit groups while making it easier as well as profitable to host the event. The Princess in me was recently founded by Lifestyle and Image Consultant Talisa Lavarry when she realized the importance of high self-esteem among women of all ages. She set out to produce a product that would not only target such issues at a young age but would be fun and creative giving young girls between the ages of 5 and 12 an experience that they wouldn’t soon forget.

The Campaign will begin September 1, 2009 and run through December of 2009. The Princess in Me will give a total four non-profit organizations a FREE Princess Party for up to 12 participants. In order to be considered the organization must submit a one page letter via e-mail to tlavarry@talisalavarry.com that explains who they are, their mission and  why they feel they should be awarded a free princess party. All letters will be reviewed by board members and a very lucky organization will be selected and awarded a party. A winning organization will be chosen each month for the remainder of the calendar year.

The Princess in me is also offering a kickback program to all Churches and non-profit groups that decide to host a Princess party. Any reputable group that has a 501-c3 status is eligible for a 10% kickback of all proceeds received from a party that they partner with The Princess in me on. This in itself can be a very lucrative fund-raiser for non-profit organizations.

I’d like to personally thank each and every person that contributed to the success of Recessionista’s Closet. It was a long and hard journey but the happy faces of the swappers made it all worthwhile. This swap gained more media than I ever imagined, I will not even try to list all of the papers, blogs and news stations that covered the story as I’m sure I would leave someone out but the information was delivered well and the community received it well. My staff and volunteers were fabulous and they all came out with a sincere heart and a giving spirit. The Fashion show was great and the choreography that Ms. Jaqueline, owner or Dream Resale did was fabulous. I’d like to thank my family and friends that supported me the whole way and my models that appeared on Good Morning Texas with me the morning prior. Also DJ Supreme, was wonderful and to my MC Brandi Richard, I cannot thank you enough for your positive attitude and warm spirit. I’d like to refer any and everyone that is still interested in swapping to  Serita White owner of Swap Stuff. Please look her up online and join her community at www.stuffswapcommunity.ning.com

Also I’d like to send a special thanks to DIFFA, Design Industry for fighting Aids. You all added so much to the ambiance of the day with your jackets and thank you for the $10 special towards the end. I think several of us purchased more jackets than we can handle. I look forward to doing more work with you in the future.

And lastly, please know that Image Consulting is very much still my passion. I have no intentions of becoming the swap lady in town; I will leave that job to Serita. This was a promotional event and it has served its purpose. Please continue to check back and look forward to more from Talisa Lavarry Lifestyle and Image Consulting.

Regards,

Talisa Lavarry
